About Jessica
Hi all! I’m Jessica Hua. A Chicago girl at heart currently living in Raleigh, NC. A software engineering nerd and travel junkie while eating my way through it all. Currently working as a full-stack engineer with Fidelity Investments while running a blog on the side at jessicahua.com to share travel guides and tech tips.
How did you get into tech?
I was introduced to coding back during the Myspace days where I couldn’t find a layout I liked so I picked up HTML/CSS to create my own. Fast forward to college, I changed my major several times and gave computer science a go once I ran out of options and loved the creativity and challenge that came with coding. I can get lost in the code for hours and loved that there’s always something new to learn when I got bored. I graduated in 2017 with a degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Software Engineering from DePaul University. More on my story here.
What languages/technologies do you have the most experience in?
Angular (typescript), NodeJS, Java, SQL.
What are you currently learning/practising?
AWS Cloud, Containers, Microservices.
What are your favourite resources to learn/stay updated on tech?
Following other tech accounts on Instagram, watching keynotes.
What would people learn about by following you?
The experience about being a woman in tech, tips on how to kick off your career after college, tech resources and my journey as a software engineer.
What inspired you to start sharing your experiences on social media?
I felt like I neglected computer science as an option for me for the longest because I didn’t have a role model or anyone to relate to in the field so I am hoping by sharing my experiences I can help someone realize the opportunities I didn’t when I was younger.
