July 28: Women in Tech Weekly Issue 69

Happy Tuesday! This week’s issue shares a ton of awesome resources and my upcoming project – which I can’t wait to get your feedback on! 🥰

If you’d like to submit anything for next week’s issue, please do so using the submission form at the bottom of this post.

New Project 🌟

Community has been at the centre of everything I do for years now ❤️ I think that notion of belonging, support and sisterhood is the best way to raise everyone’s level. It’s the best way to generate ideas, solve problems and create better, more inclusive products and services. It raises everyone’s level!

I’ve been itching to create a community for women in STEM for years now and it’s time to do that. I feel like it’s now or never! Watch this space for upcoming updates 🥰 If you’d like to be the first to know when it launches, please express your interest by filling out the form below!

I’m pausing Featured posts as I’m focusing more of my energy on building this. I hope that the result will help you find and connect with even more strong, inspiring, like-minded, stereotype-breaking women in STEM!

Celebrations 🥂🎉

Pauline rolled off her graduate training scheme into a full-time role in tech as a Site Reliability Engineer!

In her own words:

“After two years on the BT graduate programme, I’ve gone into a full time role in SRE where I’ll be working on ensuring that our platform is secure, reliable and highly performant. I’ll be using AWS, DevOps principles and automating everything! This is a huge achievement as someone who doesn’t have a tech background.”

Happy Friday 🎉 Who else is so ready for the weekend?! 🙋🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ These past two months have been one of the most stressful in my life so far and with the pandemic crisis, fighting injustice and everything feeling a little too much added on top, I’ve been mentally exhausted.⁣ ⁣ With that said, I’m *so* grateful for everything that has come my way these past few weeks despite everything. I’ve also got some stuff in the pipeline I’m super excited about as well. Overall, it’s actually not all gloom and doom. 2020 vision is still alive and well! 🤩⁣ ⁣ A recent win that was my top priority this year… (and I’ve not officially announced anywhere else yet) but I’ve now rolled off my graduate scheme into a full-time role. 🥳 I’m officially a Site Reliability Engineer!! 👩🏻‍💻 On my way to make sure systems are reliable, performing well in the most secure and cost-effective way.⁣ ⁣ My background in tech has mostly been self-taught in development but over the past year or so, I’ve been super intrigued by DevOps and Cloud so stepping into this role — even though probably more challenging felt like the best move for me. I also enjoy being uncomfortable too much 🤪⁣ ⁣ …And besides, I’m still going to be doing a lot of dev on the side. Y’all know me – living my best multi-hyphenated life. 😂 ⁣ ⁣ (Also quick note on something that I live by: you are more than your job title, so whatever society labels you — don’t stress too much! Just be… you. I’m just Pauline at the end of the day regardless of fancy titles 🤷‍♀️)⁣ ⁣ I look back at the list I created of my priorities for 2020, and I’m so happy to have ticked off a lot of them already. Yeah, this year has been pretty shit so far but I’m determined to adapt and make it my year anyway. 💪🏼⁣ ⁣ 〰️⁣ 👗@wearetala this jumpsuit is LIFE.⁣ 💻 I know I said no more stickers on my laptop, but *Chandler voice* HAVE YOU SEEN the Friends stickers? 😝
