Haley has a new blog website!

In her own words:

“I want to be a woman who uses the little platform she has to scream from the mountain tops that everyone *yes, EVERYONE* deserves a chance to be exposed to the beauty of science, technology, mathematics, and engineering. I am sick and tired of the STEM field feeling like this elite, inaccessible field that only certain “privileged” people belong in.

STEM is for everyone; that’s what this platform is all about.”

⁣⁣⁣⁣FUN FACT #1:⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ In the summer of 2017, a group of dedicated designers, researchers, and engineers at Google collaborated to create a comprehensive set of design guidelines — covering everything from typography and sound, to data visualizations.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ FUN FACT #2:⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I wrote an article on my 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝗪 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐆 hosted on my 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝗪 𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄 talking about Google’s six design principles for any chart design. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Yes, that’s right folks!!! I finally went after a dream I’ve been avoiding for years now and started ✨my own website ✨ where I can share whatever comes into my brain.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I will be posting plenty of data science tips 📈, empowering thoughts 🌱, fun yoga workouts 🧘🏼‍♀️, and more ☕️🌊🌈🌃💅🏼, just like I do here. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ But, as you guys have probably noticed, I tend to have a lot to say… Having my own website with no restrictions will open up so many doors for ways I can get creative with the content I share with you guys.⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Head to the link in my bio if you get a chance and you can read up on the Six Principles for Designing Any Chart according to Google designers and engineers + a little bonus article about why I even started this new platform that I’m so excited about I can even contain it 🤓💗

10 tips to stay sane during Covid-19 quarantine – created and shared by Alex

Alex says:

“Now that so many countries have asked society to stay home in quarantine to avoid the spread of Covid-19, we need guidance on how to keep our lives healthy productive and sane while we are indoors. So much has changed in our routines that we need tips to make the best out of these hard times. Only together we can succeed.”

My Take On Google’s Six Chart Design Principles – created and shared by Haley

Haley says:

“In 2017, a group of brilliant Google employees from different backgrounds (graphic design, research, engineering) came together to create a complete guide to data visualization. One of the byproducts of this guide was a list of six principles for designing any chart. These principles aren’t rocket science, but they are details that many people push under the rug. As a result, data visualizations are not as impactful as they could potentially be.”

Women in STEM by Maryville University – created and shared by Jenna

Jenna says:

“While serious obstacles remain and gender disparity stubbornly persists, the outlook for women choosing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is brighter than ever. Two trends are converging at the right time: Societal misconceptions about women in technology fields are being blown up just as the industry’s need for skilled tech professionals skyrockets.”

Deepdive into 3 Major Data Science Languages – created by Vicky

Vicky covers SQL, Python and R – explaining how they work.

In today’s video, I would like to dive into three major languages in data science – #sql is a language to use to talk to the database. Consider it as the waiter at the restaurant it’s trying to tell you what are some dishes and what’s the kitchen specify is. – #python is a backend language. Widely used to created repetitive tasks. It has a better data handling. – #r is good for ad hoc and exploring datasets. It has extensive Visualization capabilities. . Hope that helps to explain a little bit of differences between those two 😘 . . . . ☝🏼Follow @vickysdailystandup for daily one minute video. . . . .
