About Maya
I studied Computer Science in college and now I am a full-stack Software Engineer in the financial tech industry. In my free time, I teach kids Game Design twice a week and I also have a YouTube channel where I share my journey as a Software Engineer and also an Instagram where I teach people to code!
How did you get into tech?
I actually fell into tech by accident! In high school, I was applying to a whole bunch of different colleges and just choosing random majors so I won’t go in as undeclared. The school I ended up going to I chose Computer Science as my major. Before then, I had not written a line of code. What excites me about tech is how creative it is. We have the power to create whatever we want!
What languages/technologies do you have the most experience in?
JavaScript, React, Python, Java
What are you currently learning/practising?
I want to dive into creating animations in Python!
What are your favourite resources to learn/stay updated on tech?
My favorite resources to learn tech include W3Schools (a classic), blog posts from Medium, and also Enki. Enki is an app where you can do 10-minute brain workouts every day on different topics like web development, git, Python, Java, etc. It’s an easy way for me to keep my skills sharp!
What would people learn about by following you?
If you are learning Python, I have a learn to code Python series on my Instagram and also on TikTok. After Python, I am thinking of teaching HTML. I also include a lot of motivational quotes in my IG stories to keep us all motivated. On my YouTube channel, I share anything from “How much I made as a Software Engineering intern” to “a day in the life of a software engineer”! I also like to include challenges on my channel where we create an app or do one month of interview prep, etc!
What inspired you to start sharing your experiences on social media?
What inspired me to share my experiences in tech is that in college I felt alone. I didn’t have a lot of friends that I could relate to. I hope to be a friend to people whether you are self-taught or in a Bootcamp, just know I am rooting for you!
